BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 26

By Fidan Babayeva - Trend:

The liberation of Azerbaijani lands from occupation will directly affect the development of the country's non-oil sector in the coming years, Deputy Executive Director of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC) of Azerbaijan Ramil Huseyn told Trend.

According to Huseyn, the Upper Karabakh and Kelbajar-Lachin economic regions have a very large natural potential and their use will contribute to the faster growth of the non-oil sector of Azerbaijan.

“It is enough just to note the fact that 155 different types of mineral deposits are located in the occupied territories, which are important for the economic potential of Azerbaijan. There are also gold deposits in the Kelbajar and Zangelan districts,” he noted.

Huseyn noted that the return of the Azerbaijani population to their native lands will make a significant contribution both to the development of agriculture and to ensuring the country's food security.

“At the same time, opportunities will be created for the development of the tourism sector of the liberated regions. In general, the complete liberation of territories from occupation will have a huge impact on our economic development, which can be observed in the growth of the country's GDP,” said CAERC representative noted.

“Our preliminary calculation shows that after the complete liberation of our lands, the total annual output in the main areas in the Upper Karabakh and Kelbajar-Lachin economic regions may increase by more than 2 billion manat ($1.17 billion). This growth, in turn, will have a positive effect on the rate of GDP growth in the country,” added Huseyn.
