Kazakhstan's Ecology Ministry prohibits geological exploration in Balkhsh district

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 6

By Nargiz Sadikhova – Trend:

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources has prohibited Kazakh Tau Ken Samruk company from holding geological exploration in Balkhsh district of country’s Almaty region, Trend reports citing the ministry.

The ministry said the areas for exploration considered by the company are within the boundaries of the state natural reserve of republican significance.

Thus, taking into consideration the Code of Kazakhstan, the ministry’s specialists consider it inexpedient to carry out geological exploration work on the territory of the reserve. The exploration work in the Ili delta will adversely affect the state of surface and groundwater, as well as the entire ecosystem of the Ili delta.

“Intensive industrial activity in the Balkash depression can lead to the negative processes that could threaten the life of the lake. To maintain an optimal hydrological regime, it is necessary to stop any irrigation work in the delta, leading to a change in the existing regimes in it,” the ministry said.

Tau-Ken Samruk National Mining Joint Stock Company is a vertically integrated company to ensure the effective operation of subsoil use in the following fields:

Exploration, development, production, processing and marketing of solid minerals;

Effective management of shares of mining and metallurgic enterprises transmitted to the company;

Development and introduction of new high-tech and efficient technologies in mining industry;

Reproduction of mineral resources potential of the country;

Development of non-commercial reserves of deposits.
