BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 1

By Zeyni Jafarov - Trend:

Azerbaijani farmers have delivered 327,586 tons of cotton to processing centers up to date, Trend reports citing the Azerbaijani Ministry of Agriculture.

According to the ministry, farmers harvested 327,586 tons of cotton from January through November 2020, which is 32,586 tons more compared to the same period of 2019.

During 2019, 295,000 tons of cotton were collected and delivered to the points in the country, said the ministry.

“The current average cotton yield is 32.79 centners per hectare, which exceeds last year’s indicator by 3.29 centners. At present, cotton harvesting in the fields continues. By the end of the season, an increase in both the volume of the crop and the average yield is expected. The cotton harvesting is planned to be completed at the shortest possible time,” the message said.

The ministry said the development of cotton growing in Azerbaijan is supported by the state.

Under the new subsidy mechanism, cotton farmers receive a crop subsidy. For each hectare of a cotton field, the farmer is provided with a subsidy of 220 manat ($129.4). Grown products, depending on the quality, are purchased at 550-650 manat ($323.5-$382.3) per ton.

(1 USD = 1.7 manat on Dec. 1)
