Wheat cultivation increases in Iran

The volume of areas under wheat cultivation in Iran from the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020) to November 28, increased by 75 percent compared to the plan, Executor for the wheat plan of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran, Esmaeil Esfandiaripour said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

Esfandiaripour emphasized that wheat was cultivated on 4.49 million hectares of land during the reporting period.

He added that the volume of ordinary agricultural land on wheat cultivation increased by 7.4 percent and dry-farming land by 3.7 percent compared to the same period last year.

The official noted that so, 1.27 million hectares of the land are ordinary agricultural land, and 3.21 million hectares is dry-farming land.

According to Esfandiaripour, the volume of areas under wheat cultivation in Iran is projected to be reached to 6 million hectares by the end of the current Iranian year (until March 21, 2021).

A total of 22 million tons of wheat worth 208 trillion rials (about $4.95 billion) were purchased from farmers in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020, to March 21, 2021). The volume of purchased wheat increased by 7 percent compared to the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019, to March 20, 2020). The money for purchased wheat was paid fully.
