BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec.7

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

A total of 6,207 tons of apples worth $2.7 million were exported from Georgia from August 1 to December 6, Trend reports via the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.

Apple exports 14-fold exceed the figure for the same period of 2019.

Georgia’s export of apples in terms of value increased by $2.4 million.

Russia is the main importer of Georgian apples, a total of 5,945 tons were exported to this country. Apart from the Russian Federation, exports were also carried out to Kazakhstan, Singapore and Hong Kong.

A large apple harvest is expected in Georgia this year - more than 120,000 tons, mainly in the Shida Kartli region.

State co-financing amounted to more than 9 million lari (about $3 million).

To facilitate the export of fruits, the necessary documentation is prepared and issued in a "single window" mode. Representatives of phytosanitary and customs services are involved in the process.

A working group has been created in the ministry, which is actively working in the field of searching and collecting information, systematizing, connecting farmers and distributors.
