BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 21

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

Turkmenistan will conclude additional agreements to contracts for the supply of electricity to Afghanistan, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan’s State News Agency.

The corresponding decree on the conclusion of additional agreements was signed by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The agreements will be signed in order to implement plans envisaged in the Concept of Electric Power Industry Development of Turkmenistan for 2013-2020, also to increase volumes of export of Turkmen electricity, as well as continue ongoing cooperation in the electricity sector between Turkmenistan and of Afghanistan.

Turkmenistan is working to increase the supply of electricity to Afghanistan in the direction of Serhetabat-Herat-Turgundi and Ramadasan–Kalinaw.

Turkmenistan will continue to provide Afghanistan with all possible assistance and support, as well as implement new joint projects, says the report.

Turkmenistan is committed to promoting the socio-economic development of Afghanistan. Turkmenistan's commitment is shown in infrastructure projects initiated by Turkmenistan, including the construction of social facilities on the territory of Afghanistan on a gratuitous basis.

The construction of the TAPI gas pipeline, electric power and communication lines along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan route, as well as railway lines connecting Turkmenistan with Afghanistan and other countries in the region is important for the Afghan economy.

The representatives of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding concerning Land Acquisition for the Afghan portion of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project.
