The share of agricultural products in exports from the East Azerbaijan Province (northwestern Iran) increased from 12 percent to 19 percent over the past two years (from March 21, 2018, to March 20, 2020), Director of Agriculture Department of East Azerbaijan Province Akbar Fathi said, Trend reports citing the department’s website.
According to Fathi, this means that an increase of 6.5 percent was achieved during the reporting period.
Fathi added that the most amount of the province's agricultural products are transported to other provinces of Iran, and the rest is exported to 54 countries.
“The exported goods were mainly sweet stuff, vegetables, raisins, tomato paste, fruit juices, grapes, dairy products, planting and greenhouse products and so on,” he said.
The director stressed that 124,000 tons of goods worth $136 million were exported from Iran's East Azerbaijan Province during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 20 through November 20, 2020).
Iran's East Azerbaijan Province has 1.2 million hectares of agricultural land. Its 105,000 hectares are accounted for horticulture areas.
