KAZ Minerals resumes operations at its Kyrgyzstan-based mine

Operations of KAZ Minerals Bozymchak mine in Kyrgyzstan were resumed after they were suspended on Oct. 6, 2020, Trend reports citing the press office of Kyrgyz government.

The report said that an agreement to boost economic cooperation between the venture and the locals was made, including supplies of the locally manufactured goods to the mine.

In addition, the possibility of creating economic clusters for the production of goods that will be consumed at enterprise was discussed, which applies not only to food products, but also to the products of industrial nature, which will create a multiplier effect in the economy.

Especial attention in the future will also be paid to the international environmental requirements when developing the mine.

Bozymchak, copper and gold open pit mine in Kyrgyzstan, commenced production in the second half of 2014 and is now operating at full capacity.

In 2019, Bozymchak mined 1.08 million tons of ore and processed 1 million tons at a copper grade of 0.82 percent, producing 7,300 tons of copper and 41,000 ounces of gold. The mine is currently operating as an open pit with up to 1 million of ore extraction per year.

KAZ Minerals is the largest copper producer in Kazakhstan focused on the mining of copper and the development of new copper mining projects in Kazakhstan and Russia.
