Iran boosts exports of fishery products

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 26

The exports of Iran’s various fish and fishery products increased by 6 percent in terms of value and 4 percent in terms of volume during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through January 20, 2021), Deputy Chairman of Iran Fisheries Organization Isa Golshahi said, Trend reports citing the organization’s website.

The deputy chairman said that Iran's fishery products exports amounted to 114,000 tons worth $399 million over the reporting period.

Golshahi added that Iran exported certain fish species (cutlassfish, squid, catfish, etc.), which are not consumed in Iran (due to Islamic laws) over 10 months. The export of these fish species amounted to 29,000 tons worth $73 million.

“Furthermore, about 18,000 tons of dried fish worth about $18 million were exported from Iran during ten months,” he said.

According to the chairman, the canning of trout has been launched in Iran in the current Iranian year.

As reported, Iran exported $440 million worth of fishery products in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).

Also, Iran produced 1.28 million tons of fishery products in the last Iranian year.
