BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb.17

By Fidan Babayeva - Trend:

A plan for the development of beekeeping in the territories of Azerbaijan liberated from the Armenian occupation is being developed, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Beekeepers' Association, Badraddin Hasratov, told Trend.

According to the chairman, the production of bee products may increase by 50 percent thanks to the development of beekeeping in the liberated lands of Azerbaijan.

“There are favorable conditions for the development of beekeeping in Karabakh, and representatives of the association have already visited these territories several times,” Hasratov noted.

The chairman stressed that two years ago the number of bee colonies in Azerbaijan was 200,000, and in 2020 it has already reached 500,000.

“Productivity has also increased: if earlier we received 10 kilograms of honey from one beehive, now the productivity has increased by 5 kilograms. By late May 2020, we started pumping the first honey last year, and this process continued until late August,” the chairman said.

The Azerbaijan Beekeepers Association was established in early 2016. Currently, the association unites 10,000 beekeepers and entrepreneurs in 50 districts of the country - 46 farms in districts and 4 farms in cities. The main goals of the association are the development of beekeeping, solving the current problems of beekeepers and developing a general concept for the development of this area.
