Trend:

The Iranian government has provided free electricity to 6 million household consumers, said a spokesman for Electricity Industry.

"Total of 6 million users were qualified for 100 percent discount on their electricity bill," said the Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi, Trend reports citing ILNA.

"The latest statistics of power consumption indicate from October 22 until now that 11 million users had low power consumption. About 31 percent of villagers and 20 percent in urban areas had low power consumption during this time. The number of low power consumption users has increased 4.3 percent compared to the same time last Iranian year (started March 21, 2019)," he said.

Iranian government approved the Omid plan on August 23 that set a power consumption model for users in order to reduce high power consumption in households. It would reward free electricity as an encouragement to users with low power consumption and users that have high power consumption would be fined. It was expected that from 30 million household users about 8 million users would be chosen occasionally according to the plan.

The CEO of Iran Power Generation and Distribution Company (TAVANIR) has recently stated that 85 percent of users are below the power consumption model and only 15 percent are higher than the consumption model
