Azerbaijan to increase production of pomegranate in 2021

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 21

By Fidan Babayeva - Trend:

The pomegranate productivity is expected to increase by 10 percent in Azerbaijan in 2021, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Pomegranate Producers and Exporters Association Farhad Garashov told Trend.

"Only 10-11 percent of the pomegranate produced in the country is exported if the products manufactured at the pomegranate production enterprises fully meet the needs of the domestic market, but there is still a shortage of quality products," the chairman said.

"The demand for pomegranates has grown even more due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the world," Garashov stressed. "It is too early to talk about productivity and export growth as the situation in the world is unstable today."

The chairman said that the main goal of the Association in 2021 is to enter the markets of other European countries through the support of the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation.

The Azerbaijan Pomegranate Producers and Exporters Association launched its activity in November 2016.

The activity of the Association turned out to be extremely fruitful in 2019 while the number of members increased by almost 10 times - 345 people compared to 34 in 2018.

The Association also closely cooperates with international organizations in the development of pomegranate growing.
