By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The number of international visitors (non-resident travelers of age 15 or older, who visited Georgia from their area of residence) decreased by 73.4 percent in March 2021, compared to 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic-related restrictions, Trend reports via Georgian National Bank (NBG).

The number of tourists (visitors who spent at least one night in Georgia) reached 91.7 percent of the total visitors and shrunk by 64.4 percent annually, NBG noted.

On top of that, the number of overnight visits decreased during the reported month.

The country faced a -90.3 percent decrease from Azerbaijan, -82.8 percent from Armenia, and -85.7 percent from Russia. The number of visitors from EU countries remains scanty (- 5 percent), NBG said.

Some 11,314 people arrived in Georgia from Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2021, said the National Tourism Administration of Georgia. In the first quarter of this year, the number of Azerbaijani visitors decreased by 250,876 people, or 95.7 percent, compared to last year. Visitors from Azerbaijan to Georgia spent an average of 395 lari ($115.93) per visit.

From January through March, a total of 130,188 international guests from neighboring countries visited Georgia, which is 88.4 percent less than the total amount for the first three months of 2020.
