Iran discloses share of agricultural products in its total exports to Iraq

About 30 percent of Iran's annual exports to Iraq are accounted for agricultural and food products, Director General of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran’s (TPOI) Arabic-African Affairs Office Farzad Piltan said, Trend reports citing the organization.

The director general emphasized that Iran's exports to Iraq were mainly fruits, vegetables, dairy products, sweets, chocolate, cereal products, livestock products, sweet stuff, plants and herbs, and etc.

Piltan added that the value of Iran's agricultural and food exports to Iraq amounted to about $11 billion over the past five years (from March 20, 2016 through March 20, 2021). Of this, $3.7 billion was accounted for fruits and vegetables. So, tomato, apple, watermelon, potato, onions, cucumber and kiwi fruit were the most exported fruits and vegetables.

“A meeting is to be held to discuss certain problems related to the export of Iranian agricultural products to Iraq,” he said.

Reportedly, on June 8, 2021 a meeting will be held with the participation of representatives of the public and private sectors of Iran and Iraq, including the Ministries of Agriculture, Customs Administration, standardization organization, Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce, producers and exporters and others.

According to the statistics of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Iran's exports to Iraq amounted to $3.1 million tons worth $953 million in the second month of the current Iranian year (April 21 through May 21, 2021).

This is a decrease of 13 percent in terms of value and 18 percent in terms of volume, compared to the same month last Iranian year.
