Turkmenistan shares data on average yield of potatoes

During the harvesting of vegetables in open fields in Turkmenistan, which started in early July, the average yield of potatoes amounted to 180 centners per hectare, Trend reports via the country’s official media.

This figure is relatively high for the countries of the region. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the average potato yield in Asia and Oceania is about 150 centners per hectare.

According to the state order plan, the potato was planted in around 13,330 hectares of land in Turkmenistan, with most of the plantations located in Ahal and Murghab oases.

In addition, during this period, the average yield of onions in the country amounted to 250 centners per hectare. Onion was planted in around 6 thousand hectares of land this season.

These statistics take into account only the crop that is grown by state orders. Turkmen businesses are also engaged in the production of potatoes and onions.

Last year, in accordance with the state production plan for vegetables and gourds, Turkmen farmers harvested 21,250 tons of cabbage, 38,340 tons of carrots, and 214,700 tons of gourds.
