Georgia plans to lease tea plantations for symbolic fee

The Georgian government is ready to lease overgrown tea plantations for a symbolic payment, said the head of the country's said Ministry of Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili, Trend reports referring to the Georgian media.

“We are implementing the Georgian Tea project, which implies the revival of tea production. Today everyone can turn to the state in order to rent out decayed and overgrown tea plantations at a symbolic price and receive 100 percent of the amount for their restoration,” Davitashvili said.

According to the information on the page of the Rural Development Agency, participants in the Georgian Tea program receive 70 percent of co-financing from the state for plantation restoration, but no more than 2,500 lari ($801.709) per square meter.

Co-financing of cooperatives is 90 percent of the cost, but not more than 3,000 lari ($962,051) per square meter. At the same time, the area of ​​the plantation leased from the state must be at least 5 hectares and no more than 300 hectares.

The state finances the following works: clearing the plantation, plowing, installing drainage systems, cultivating the land between the rows, providing fertilizers for the first year.
