Georgia sees increase in peaches and nectarines export

Georgia exported 28.7 tons of peaches and nectarines in the amount of $26.1 million from May 1 through August 24, Trend reports via the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

Compared to the same period of last year, peaches and nectarines export increased by 5,700 tons (25 percent), and exports value - by $6.9 million (36 percent).

The Georgian product is exported to Russia (18,942), Armenia(8,156 tons), Ukraine(768 tons), Azerbaijan(269 tons), Belarus (119 tons), Moldova(116 tons), Poland (98 tons), Slovenia (59 tons).

This year Georgia will export record volumes of peaches and apples, said the Minister of Agriculture of Georgia Levan Davitashvili.

According to him, today Georgia has already exported 24,000 tons of peaches and apples.

"We have a successful season this year: a record amount of peaches and apples are being exported. This success is the result of our consistent policy," Davitashvili said.

According to him, the state has solved problems with product quality and infrastructure, lack of refrigeration equipment.
