Up to 100,000 tons of grapes were processed in the Kakheti region of Georgia from August 27 through September 15, Trend reports citing data from the National Wine Agency.
By this time, the collection and delivery of grapes to the factories are actively taking place in the municipalities of Dedoplistskaro, Signagi, Gurjaani and Kvareli.
By this time, up to 10,000 winegrowers were able to realize their harvest, having earned more than 90 million lari ($28.9 million). Some 136 wine companies buy crops from farmers. The government plans to industrialize 300,000 tons of grapes.
In 2020, the country harvested and processed up to 280,000 tons of grapes. More than 25,000 farmers handed over the harvested crop.
In order to support wine farmers, the Georgian government decided to subsidize two grape varieties - "Rkatsiteli" and "Kakhuri Mtsvane", which are mainly grown in Kakheti. Some 100 million lari ($32.2 million) allocated for subsidies.
