Iran seeks to export honey to Eurasian countries and the European Union via Kyrgyzstan, Iran`s Ministry of Agriculture's beekeeping contractor said, Trend reports citing IRNA.
"Iran has the capacity to export 5,000 to 10,000 tons of honey annually through Kyrgyzstan to the countries of the Eurasian region and the European Union," Hossein Akbarpour said.
He went on to say that the export of honey can generate approximately $6 million to $10 million of revenue annually for the country.
He announced two rounds of talks between Iran's Beekeeping Industry Expansion Support Fund (BIESF), Iran Veterinary Organization, and the representative of Kyrgyzstan to discuss methods, quality control indicators, and health protocols for exporting high-quality honey from Iran.
"Negotiations with Kyrgyzstan for the export of Iranian honey to the Eurasian region and the European Union continue," Akbarpour indicated.
A total of 1,985 tons of honey were exported during the last Iranian year (March 2020 to March 2021).
