Iran launches several mines in West Azerbaijan Province

As many as 38 mines were launched in the West Azerbaijan Province (north-western Iran), during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through January 20, 2022), Deputy Chairman of Industry, Mine and Trade Organization of West Azerbaijan Province Parisa Abedpour said, Trend reports citing the organization’s website.

The deputy noted that this is an increase of 12 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

Abedpour added that it is possible to extract 3.94 million tons of minerals from 38 mines a year.

"In total, 1.41 trillion rials (about $33.6 million) was spent on the launch of 38 mines in 10 months, which is 329 percent more than in the same period last Iranian year," he said.

According to Abedpour, a total of 728 people were employed with the launch of the mines for ten months. Employment increased by 204 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

"There are currently 511 mines operating in the West Azerbaijan Province. The total reserves of these mines are over 1.14 billion tons. Meanwhile, extraction capacity from the mines is more than 17.8 million tons per year," he said.

The deputy chairman emphasized that in total, about 5.05 trillion rials (about $120 million) has been spent on the mines. At present, 5,208 people work in these mines.
