BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 6. Iranian Government Trading Corporation (GTC) began to purchase wheat from farmers under a guarantee in the Fars Province (southern Iran), as of April 5, 2022, Director General of the GTC’s branch in the Fars Province Mehdi Jamali said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s official website.

According to Jamali, a total of 275 tons of wheat have been purchased from farmers under a guarantee in the province since April 5.

The director general stressed that wheat has been harvested in Lamerd, Mohr, Khonj, Gerash, Evaz and Larestan counties of the province, and sold to related centers established for the guaranteed purchase of wheat.

“In this regard, more than 130 centers have been opened in the province, so far,” he said.

Jamali noted that a total of 400,000 tons of wheat are expected to be purchased from farmers in the province within the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023).

In general, 9 million tons of wheat are expected to be purchased in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2022, through March 20, 2023). Of this, about 5.5 million tons are expected to be purchased by the GTC.

The price of 1 kg of wheat was set up at 115,000 rials (about $2.74) for the current Iranian year.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
