BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 6. Both trade ties, as well as trade turnover between Iran and Azerbaijan will increase even more, within the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), Iranian member of the Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Chamber of Commerce Behrouz Poursoleiman told Trend.
According to Poursoleiman, the priority of the Iranian government is to develop trade relations with neighboring countries, especially Azerbaijan.
In this regard, there are no problems in trade relations between the two countries, he said.
The official added that the 15th meeting of the State Commission on Cooperation in Economic, Trade and Humanitarian Spheres between Azerbaijan and Iran, held in Baku On March 11, 2022, will give impetus to the development of economic relations between the two countries.
“The trade turnover between Iran and Azerbaijan was never suspended neither during the coronavirus pandemic nor during the second Karabakh war. Imports and exports between the two countries always continue, and the prospects for trade relations are positive,” he said.
Poursoleiman noted that currently, the only problem is the inability of citizens to cross land border checkpoints.
"Thus, only air travel between the two countries is possible. Iranian citizens are currently issued visas for $28 over 4 days. Meanwhile, an emergency visa costs $60," he said, adding that Iran has already started organizing tours to Azerbaijan.
During the first 11 months of the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through February 19, 2022), Iran exported about 759,000 tons of goods worth about $492 million to Azerbaijan. Iran's exports to Azerbaijan for the reporting period increased by 5 percent in value, while decreased by 17 percent in volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year.
Meanwhile, Iran's imports from Azerbaijan amounted to about 20,300 tons worth about $35.8 million, during the first 11 months of the last Iranian year. This is increase of 66 percent in value, while a decrease of 15.9 percent in volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.
