BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 12. Iran increased imports from neighboring countries by 60 percent in value and 68 percent in volume, over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), compared to the preceding Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), Director General of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Alireza Moghaddasi said, Trend reports citing the administration.

In total, Iran imported about 24.7 million tons of goods worth more than $25.8 billion from neighboring countries within the mentioned period, the official said.

Moghaddasi added that Iran imported $16.5 billion worth of goods from the UAE over last Iranian year, which is 69 percent more than in the preceding Iranian year.

“In addition, Iran imported $5.3 billion worth of goods from Turkey last Iranian year. This is an increase of 20 percent in value compared to the preceding Iranian year,” he noted.

Meanwhile, the value of Iran's imports from Russia amounted to $1.7 billion over last Iranian year, which is 54 percent more than in the preceding Iranian year, according to the director general.

Moghaddasi also pointed out that Iran imported $1.2 billion worth of goods from Iraq during the reporting period, which is an increase of 790 percent compared to the preceding Iranian year.

The director general stressed that Iran also imported $619 million worth of goods from Oman in last Iranian year. The exports increased by 43 percent in value, compared to the preceding Iranian year.

“Over the last Iranian year, Iran imported goods worth $312 million from Pakistan, worth $78 million from Kazakhstan, worth $42.6 million from Azerbaijan, worth $33.3 million from Turkmenistan, worth $21.1 million from Afghanistan, worth $14.8 million from Kuwait, worth $9.6 million from Qatar, worth $1.5 million from Bahrain, and worth $20.2 million from the remaining neighboring countries,” Moghaddasi said.

In general, Iran's trade turnover with neighboring countries amounted to more than 100 million tons worth about $51.9 billion in the last Iranian year, which is an increase of 43 percent in value and 23 percent in volume, compared to the preceding Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021).
