BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 3. As many as 200-255 trucks daily are currently crossing through the Astara border checkpoint in the Gilan Province (northern Iran), Director General of the Astara Customs Office Saeed Naderi told ISNA, Trend reports.
The director general noted that if the necessary infrastructure is improved, 400 trucks will be able to cross through the border checkpoint daily.
Naderi also added that the Astara border checkpoint is located in Iran’s Astara city. The lack of parking for trucks entering the city for transit and export purposes results in traffic jams in the city.
“It is hoped that a parking lot for trucks will be built, which will eliminate this problem," he said.
According to the official, at present, a transit truck crosses through the Astara border checkpoint every 7 minutes.
On January 25, 2022, the foundation of a new bridge over the Astarachay River on the border of Azerbaijan-Iran was laid. The construction of the 89-meter-long and 30-meter-wide bridge is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
