BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 6. In total, about 295,000 tons of rapeseed is expected to be harvested from 183,000 hectares of land in Iran, during the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Trend reports citing Iranian Government Trading Corporation’s website.

According to the report, about 80,000 tons of rapeseed is expected to be harvested from 51,000 hectares of land in the Golestan Province (north-eastern Iran), while 76,000 tons from 45,500 hectares in the Khuzestan Province (south-western Iran).

The remaining rapeseed will be harvested in Iran's Fars, North Khorasan, Ardabil, Mazandaran, Sistan and Baluchestan, Kerman, West Azerbaijan, Semnan and Isfahan provinces.

Currently, Iran's annual demand for cooking oil is 1.65 million tons. Of this, 150,000 tons are met by domestically, while 1.5 million tons - by imports.

A number of programs are being implemented in the country to develop the cultivation of rapeseed and other oilseeds. Thus, it is projected that about 50 percent of cooking oil consumption in the country will be met by domestic production in the future.
