BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 20. Iran’s Government Trading Corporation (GTC) has purchased more than 27,700 tons of wheat and 1,120 tons of rapeseed from farmers under a guarantee in the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province (western Iran), from the beginning of the current harvesting season in Iran (March 24, 2022) to June 20, Director General of the GTC’s branch in the province Abolhassan Sadaghat Kish said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.

“So far, 2.32 trillion rials (about $55.2 million) has been paid to farmers for purchased wheat and rapeseed, which means 90 percent of the total amount. Meanwhile, the remaining funds will be paid to farmers within the next 10 days,” the official said.

The director general added that 9 centers have been established in the province to purchase wheat from farmers under a guarantee, as well as 3 centers - to purchase rapeseed.

Sadaghat Kish noted that a total of 37,000 tons of wheat and 2,200 tons of rapeseed are expected to be purchased from farmers in the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province this season,” he noted.

In general, 9 million tons of wheat are expected to be purchased in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2022, through March 20, 2023). Of this, about 5.5 million tons are expected to be purchased by the GTC.

The price of 1 kg of wheat was set up at 115,000 rials (about $2.74), while 1 kg of rapeseed – was at 150,000 rials (about $3.57 million) for the current Iranian year.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
