Iran's saffron export declines

TEHRAN, Iran, August 3. Iran's saffron export has declined 47 percent in the past six months, Vice President of the National Saffron Council Gholamreza Miri told Trend.

Iran exporters have to exchange foreign revenues in the Forex Management Integrated System (NIMA) but at the rate of 60,000 rials (about $1.4) less than the price of the free market, which in turn, causes the loss and reduce of saffron exports.

"Tariff Specification Code (TSC) export price for a kilo of saffron is $1600 while the export rate of each kilogram of saffron is $1300, which leads to a loss of $300 per kilogram," Miri noted.

He pointed out that the cost of transferring export revenues back to Iran via the exchange offices is five percent, which should be paid by exporter.
