TEHRAN, Iran, August 8. Iranian parliament members are criticizing the low price of saffron at the Iran Mercantile Exchange (IME), said member of parliament's economic commission Mohammad Safaei, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

Saffron is being offered at the IME with a 20-percent down in price, which is damaging to producers and farmers, said the MP.

He further added that the cost of production has increased as well.

"Iran's officials at the IME should prevent the saffron offering with low prices and avoid dealers, to protect the country's saffron industry," he stressed.

Saffron cultivation and production in the current Iranian year (started March 2022) is predicted to decline, leading to the increasing demand from foreign buyers and a rise in prices.
