Some 25,000 hectares of agricultural land in Iran were equipped with modern irrigation systems, during the first 5 months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through August 22, 2022), an official of the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad Fariborz Abbasi said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

The official noted that in total, Iran plans to equip 50,000 hectares of land in the country with modern irrigation systems in the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023).

Abbasi added that a total of 15 trillion rials (about $357 million), is expected to be spent on equipping agricultural areas with modern irrigation systems. So far, 15 percent of the mentioned money has been paid to companies producing modern irrigation systems and related equipment.

"Currently, Iran is implementing pilot plans for the smartening of a total of 4,000 hectares of land in 13 provinces of the country.
