Iran and Senegal look to expand ties - ambassador (Exclusive)

TEHRAN, Iran, October 24. Iran and Senegal have the capacity to develop trade ties and Senegal is a gateway to transit commodities to other African countries, Senegalese Ambassador in Iran Salio Dieng told Trend.

"Senegal is connected to open water and has direct flights to Europe and Asia," he said, adding that Senegal is currently working on expanding ties with Iran and launch of direct flights between the two countries.

The ambassador pointed out that direct flights between Iran and Senegal will start by the first half of the 2023.

The official underlined some of the incentives for foreign investment in Senegal indicating that the country’s tax system is attractive for foreign investors.

The ambassador further said that there are good investment opportunities in Senegal in such sectors as agriculture, fisheries, home appliances, tourism, mining - all of which could be of interest to Iran.

"Iran’s trade with African countries (including Senegal) has declined since last year and sanctions have effected maritime cargo transit via Senegal," he added.

Dieng stressed Senegal's interest to develop ties with Iran.

According to the ambassador, Iran and Senegal will launch a direct maritime shipping line from Tehran to Dakar to reduce problems and eliminate the intermediary role of third countries.
