BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 22. Cargo transportation through the Astara railway terminal in Iran’s Gilan Province in the north of the country, increased by 57 percent, during the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through February 19, 2023), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Director General of Iran's Northern Railway Department Gholam Hossein Valadi said, Trend reports citing Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.
In 11 months, a total of 501,797 tons of cargo were transported through the Astara railway terminal, while, the figure stood at 319,298 tons in the same period last Iranian year, Valadi said.
The director general added that 173,022 tons of goods were exported through the Astara railway terminal within 11 months. This is an increase of 9.6 percent compared to 157,856 tons in the same period last Iranian year.
“At the same time, about 130,000 tons of goods were imported and more than 198,000 tons were transited through the Astara railway terminal for the reporting period,” he noted.
According to Valadi, the exported goods were citrus fruits, cement, chemicals, ceramics, and foodstuffs, while the imported and transited goods were wood, paper, lentils, etc.
Iran's Astara railway terminal is located near the border with Azerbaijan.
