BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 24. Iran attaches importance to relations with the neighboring countries, Iraq, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan in the north-west of the country, and transport routes connecting these countries, Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash said, Trend reports.
According to the minister, connecting Iran with the three mentioned countries is the West Azerbaijan Province located in north-western Iran. One of the main strategies of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran is the development and strengthening of border terminals and communication lines on the border with neighboring countries.
Bazrpash added that among the mentioned countries, Türkiye is of greater importance for Iran. The goal is to increase the value of cargo transit between Iran and Türkiye to $30 billion per year.
He also noted that a serious will is required for the implementation of this goal. Because in this regard, investments should be made and infrastructures should be strengthened.
On June 22, 148-km-long highways and trunk roads were put into use in Iran’s West Azerbaijan Province. In total, 3.6 trillion rials (about $85.7 million) were spent on the construction of these roads.
