BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 10. Non-oil imports of Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province in the north-west of the country, increased by 23 percent in value and 9 percent in volume, in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023), compared to the same period last year, Customs Inspector of Iran's East Azerbaijan Province Sadegh Namdar said, Trend reports.
Namdar noted that 212,000 tons of goods worth $726 million were imported to Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province for six months.
The official also said that the main imported goods through the province's customs were various vehicles and related spare parts (including, passenger cars, trucks, paving machines and machinery used in various fields), wood materials, tobacco, gold bars, cocoa, organic chemical products, etc.
“Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province imported goods from nearly fifty countries in 5 months. The main destinations and their import values were: Türkiye ($378 million), the UAE ($106 million), China ($87 million), Germany ($49 million), South Korea ($17 million), Italy ($12 million), Russia ($9 million), Brazil ($9 million), Slovakia ($6 million), Japan ($6 million), and other countries ($47 million),” he added.
According to him, the province's customs revenues stood at about 21.4 trillion rials (about $508 million) in 6 months, showing an increase of 52 percent compared to the same period last year.
Overall, Iran imported 17.6 million tons of goods worth $30.4 billion in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023). This is an increase of 11.6 percent in value and 6.89 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.
