BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 18. The Bilasuvar border terminal in the Ardabil Province of Iran has witnessed a significant amount of cargo transit in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023), Trend reports.
According to the head of the border terminal Lotfollah Babaei, a total of 315,000 tons of cargo were transited through the terminal in 6 months.
This figure represents a decrease of 8.99 percent compared to the same period of the previous Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2022), when the cargo transit through the terminal reached 346,223 tons.
Babaei noted that the main products that were transited through the Bilasuvar border terminal were mineral water, soft drinks, cloth, rice, and other consumer goods.
The terminal is located on the border of Iran and Azerbaijan and serves as a major gateway for trade and commerce between the two neighboring countries.
Despite the decrease in cargo transit through the Bilasuvar border terminal, Iran has seen an overall increase in its transit volume in the first six months of the current Iranian year.
According to the latest statistics from the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), a total of 7.7 million tons of cargo were transited through Iran during this period, which is an increase of 8.24 percent compared to the same period last year.
Iran is strategically located in the crossroads of several important regional and international trade corridors and has been developing its transit infrastructure and facilities to boost its role as a transit hub in the region.
