BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 31. Iran imported more than 10.5 million mobile phones worth approximately $2.24 billion in the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2023), said Mohammad Rezvanifar, director general of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Trend reports.

The director general noted that mobile phones were imported into the country in two forms: for commercial purposes and by citizens.

He also said that about 10.2 million mobile phones worth $2.02 billion were imported into the country for trade purposes over the course of nine months.

Meanwhile, around 365,000 mobile phones worth around $212 million were imported into the country by citizens during the specified period.

The IRICA's latest data shows that Iran’s overall imports stood at 28.7 million tons, worth $48.4 billion, in the first nine months of the current Iranian year, representing a 12.3 percent increase in value and a 7 percent increase in volume compared to the same period last year.

In general, Iran mainly focuses on the import of essential products needed by the country and applies certain restrictions on the import of goods produced domestically.

Of that, about 13.8 million mobile phones worth $2.87 billion were imported for trade purposes, while 550,000 mobile phones worth $346 million were imported by citizens.
