BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 24. Iran imported over 11.9 million mobile phones worth $2.54 billion in the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2023), Trend reports.
Data from the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) shows that mobile phones were imported into the country in two forms: for commercial purposes and by citizens.
More than 11.5 million mobile phones worth $2.3 billion were imported into the country for trade purposes in ten months.
Also, about 402,000 mobile phones worth around $233 million were imported into the country by citizens during the specified period.
Last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), over 14.3 million mobile phones, worth about $3.22 billion, were imported into Iran. Of them, 13.8 million, worth $2.87 billion, were imported for trade purposes; 550,000 units, worth $346 million, were imported by citizens.
The IRICA's latest data shows that Iran’s overall imports stood at 28.7 million tons, worth $48.4 billion, in the first nine months of the current Iranian year, representing a 12.3 percent increase in value and a 7 percent increase in volume compared to the same period last year.
In general, Iran mainly focuses on the import of essential products needed by the country and applies certain restrictions on the import of goods produced domestically.
Last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), Iran imported more than 14.3 million mobile phones worth approximately $3.22 billion. Of that, about 13.8 million mobile phones worth $2.87 billion were imported for trade purposes, while 550,000 mobile phones worth $346 million were imported by citizens.
