Azerbaijan's transport carried 30.7mln ton of cargo in January-March 2006

In January to March 2006 vehicles of Azerbaijans transport sector carried 30.7mln ton of cargo, showing year-over-year increase of 10.7%, Trend reports with reference to State Statistics Committee. From the total volume of transported cargo 52.6% is the share of private sector. During first quarter 49.8% of cargo has been transported by car transport, 16.5% transferred through pipelines, 23% carried by railroad and 10.7% by marine vessels. i In January to March 2006 passenger transport means have transported 247.5mln people, showing year-over-year increase of 5.3%. From this amount 83.7% is the share of privet sector.

Railroad trains transported 7 MT of cargo, up 35.8% over year.

Marine transport showed transportation volume of 3.3mln ton, up 1.6% over year. Two-thirds of the cargo transported is oil and oil products, and the remaining part is dry cargos. Weight of cargos processed in Azerbaijans ports in January-March 2006 made 1.8 MT, down 8.8% over year. 81% from the total weight of processed cargos are transit cargos that reduced by 5.3% over year. Alongside, volume of imported cargos rose by 2.4%, and volume of exported cargos by 3.5%.

Motor transport carried 15.3 MT of cargo, up 6.1% over-year. Volume of passenger transportations totaled 207.4 mln people (up 5.3%).

Volume of passenger transportations by subway rose by 5.4% and totaled 38.5mln people. Trolleybus transportations fell in 3.8 times and totaled 58.7 thousand people. Air transportations rose by 3.6% and totaled 243.3 thousand people, from which 6.1% is the share of governmental sector.

Transportations of Eurasian transport corridor through Azerbaijan in January-February totaled 7.4 MT, up 12.1% over year; this volume is 37.8% of the total amount of weights transported across the republic.
