WB and IMF Ready to Render Thorough Assistance in Azerbaijan`s Economic Achievements

Azerbaijan`s Finance Minister Samir Sharifov continues to hold meetings with the senior representatives of the international financial institutions within the visit to Singapore to take part at the annual meeting of the managers of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB). The Minister held a meeting with Augustine Karstens, Deputy Manager of IMF, and Gray Viller, WB Manager, Trend reports referring to a message spread by the Finance Ministry.

Mr. Sharifov told the experience in the existing financial situation in Azerbaijan, perspectives of the development and priorities. He informed about the social and economic policy carrying out in the country, the economic achievements. During the meeting, tasks the Azerbaijani Government will face in the future in connection with the qualitatively new stage in the development of the Azerbaijani economy. The Azerbaijani Minister highly appreciated the cooperation with IMF and WB, and told that the Government of the country is interested in its continuation in the future even more intensively.

Mr. Karstens and Mr. Viller gave a high estimation to the economic achievements in the country, and told that in order to continue reaching these achievements, the Azerbaijani Government should take all necessary measures to reduce the dependability of the economy from the oil factor, and fully eliminate the poverty in the country. At the same time, these measures must be long-term. They also expressed readiness to render thorough assistance to the country in these directions.
