A State Customs Committee Delegation Paid a Working Visit to Belgium

A delegation of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan including its top officials and international consultants has paid a working visit to Brussels, Trend reports referring to the State Committee.

The visit of the Azerbaijani delegation headed by the Vice-Chairman of the Committee Asgar Abdulayev was paid within the project Improving the Customs System of Azerbaijan on November 20-25, 2006.

Up to date, a preparation for the initial reading of the new Customs Code of Azerbaijan have been completed, and the main aim of the visit paid was to discuss the document in corresponding bodies and offices of EU, exchange opinions on this issue, and receive references and proposals on this issue. The above-mentioned bodies marked the reforms carried out in Azerbaijan customs sphere with satisfaction. They pointed out that the new Code would further guarantee the transparency of the custom offices, their simplification, as well as acceleration of the commercial relations and efficient IT application.

Analogical visits were paid to Sweden and Estonia.

The project is considered for improving the Azerbaijan custom system. It is financed at the expense of the European Commission and implemented by UNDP. It was launched in January, 2006. The aim of the project is to render assistance to the State Customs Committee for the improvement of the legislative base in the sphere of customs, and bringing it in accordance with the EU Customs Code, as well as improving and implementing the State Customs Committee IT Development Strategy.
