Azerbaijan Transport Minister: Azerbaijan to Grant a Credit at $200mln. to Georgia to Development of Project on Construction of Railway Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku

Ziya Mammadov, Azerbaijan's Transport Minister, who is visiting Georgia, has said today in Tbilisi that Azerbaijan is ready to grant a credit at $200 mln with the interest rate of 1% per annum for the construction of a section of the railway - Kars-Alhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku, Trend Correspondent to Tbilisi reports.

According to the Azerbaijani Minister, today, the parties could view all components of the project and discuss the two documents- a framework agreement and protocol on granting a credit to Georgia. The protocol on granting the credit will be signed tomorrow at 12:00.

There have been some technical issues that we shall elaborate tonight, and tomorrow we shall sign a protocol of the meeting. A protocol of an intergovernmental agreement to be submitted to the Governments of the three countries (Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey)to be further initialed has already been prepared, he noted and emphasized that the work will advance to spite for those people who do not want to see the project implemented.

Mr. Mamadov expressed his gratitude to Georgia's Economy Minister, Giorgi Arveladze for a warm welcome.

For his part, Mr. Arveladze stressed that the Georgian party, in its turn, would do its best to speed up the implementation of the project.

We could reach the agreement on good conditions and we are quite satisfied with both the results of the today's meeting and Azerbaijan's positive attitude, he said.

The Minister also admitted that the credit would pay Georgian Rilways LC.
