According to the data of the Azerbaijan Taxes Ministry, up to January 1, 2007, the tax bodies of the country registered 243,473 physical persons engaged in entrepreneurial activity without registering themselves legally. Trend has been informed in the State Statistics Committee, that the increase in their number is explained by accelerating the formation of new economic relations, as well as renovation of the existing infrastructure in the country.
Most part (119,883 or 49,2% out of the number of registered) are involved in the field of wholesale and retail, repair of automobiles, home appliances, and things of private use. A total of
23,185 entrepreneurs (9,5%) are engaged in the agriculture, 43,503 (17,9%) ones вЂ" in the sphere of transport and telecommunications, 8,153 (3,4%) вЂ" in the extracting and reprocessing industry, 10,103 (4,2%) вЂ" in the sphere of hotel and restaurant business, 486 (0,2%) entrepreneurs are engaged in financial activity in the country.
Most of the physical persons have been registered by the tax bodies. They are engaged in entrepreneurial activity in the capital. Their number comprises 83,221 (34,2%). Aran Region of the country, which is also distinguished with its business activity ranks the second - 20,5%. The following regions were placed this way: Ganja-Gazakh Economic Region (11%), Lankaran (6,8%), Guba-Khachmaz (6,5%), Shaki-Zagatala (6,1%).
