Rise in Public Utilities Tariffs has Reduced Payments for Water Consumption in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend , corr. S. Babayeva/ Nizamaddin Rzayev, the Head of "Azersu" JSC, has said during the today's press conference that the rise in tariffs on public utilities in Azerbaijan for water consumption has reduced the percentage of collection of payments made by the consumers of this service all over the country.

According to him, prior to the Tariff Council making its decision to increase the tariffs, in December 2006, the percentage of collection of paymnts for water consumption in the country was 82.4 %, including 51.1 % which was paid by the population. On the whole, in 2006, the rate of the takings reached 63.1 %, including 39.4 % by the public and 93.1 % by organizations and enterprises working in the country.

"After the tariffs were changed in January, 2007, the rate of the collection for water consumption by the consumers was reduced for the first quarter of 2007 by making up just 47.9 %. However, in March, 2007, this figure increased up to 53.4 %," noted Mr. Rzayev.

Notably, in accordance with the decision made by the Azerbaijan Tariff Council, starting from January, 2007, the price for 1 cubic meter of water for the Baku population of Sumgayit, Ganja, Mingachavir, Ali-Bayramli and the whole Absheron Peninsula has made up AZN 0.18, and AZN 0.70 for the rest of the consumers. In the other regions of the country, the population have to pay AZN 0.14 per 1 cu. m of water, al the rest consumers - AZN 0.70 per 1 cubic meter. If water is used as a raw material, the payment is AZN 12 per 1 cu.m
