Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend S.Babayeva / On 1 June the State Veterinary Service of the Azerbaijan Agriculture Ministry announced the results of its 7th testing in the prevention against Avian Influenza in Azerbaijan.
The samples of blood and pathologic materials from twenty-six wild and 837 domestic birds were examined and no H5N1 viruses were detected.
The testing was done by a special commission which consists of specialist representatives of the Veterinary Service, Ecology, Natural Resources and Health Ministries, as well as representatives of the Hunter Community. Monitoring will begin again on 27 June.
Since 2006, more than ten studies and tests have been conducted in Azerbaijan, and any signs of 'bird flu' have not been discovered. To prevent the infiltration of the bird flu virus into the country, all frontier veterinarian points are operating at medium-security, and the prohibition on hunting, selling and eating of wild birds in the country still remains in force.
