Expert: Azersu OJSC Likely to Raise Prices for Water

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr U. Ismayilova / The decision of the Tariff Council of Azerbaijan to raise prices for wholesale of water from Jeyranbatan water reservoir will give ground to Azersu JSC to raise prices for water retail, the head of Economic Researches Centre, Gubad Ibadoghlu, said on 28 July.

The price for 1 cu m of water costs AZN 0.14 (including VAT) to population, and AZN 0.70 (including VAT) to other consumers, price for water used as stuff comprises AZN 12 (including VAT).

"This decision of the Tariff Council will result in rise in prices for water used not only in public utilities sector, but also in irrigation," he said.

Under the decision of the Tariff Council made on 26 July the wholesale price for 1,000 cu m water from Jeyranbatan water reservoir was raised to AZN 20 (without VAT).

The Tariff Council notes that the major consumer of the water from Jeyranbatan is Azersu OJSC and the new tariffs will not seriously affect financial-agricultural activities of the enterprise.

Speaking on Council's viewing state registration of medical products by economic facilities controlled by the Health Ministry, Ibadoghlu said that rise in prices in this field would influence expenditures of enterprises engaged in that sphere, and consequently they will have to increase prices for medicines in order to cover the expenditures.
