German RWE Strives for Nabucco Project

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr A. Badalova / German RWE energy company hopes to join the consortium on construction of the Nabucco gas pipeline intended for exporting Asian gas to Europe, according to RWE.

The consortium includes the five following companies: OMV Gas International GmbH (operator), MOL Plc, TRANSGAZ S.A., BULGARGAZ HOLDING EAD, and BOTAS AS.

According to RWE, it is not yet known when the company will join the project.

According to foreign media reports, the French state company of Gaz de France can also join the project. The company was unavailable for an interview.

The agreement on construction of the Nabucco gas pipeline was signed on 25 June 2007. It was undersigned by the European Commissioner on Energy, Andreas Piebalgs, and the Turkish, Bulgarian, Romanian, Hungarian, and Austrian Energy Ministers. The total cost of the project is assessed at $5.8bln.
