Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 19/ Trend / SOCAR has launched metering gas emissions in its own enterprises under the Reduction of Global Gas Emissions program by the World Bank, according to the Ecology Department of SOCAR.
Collection of a low-pressure casing head gas from shallow parts of Gunashli field is expected to begin on Jan. 1, Maharram Mehdiyev, chief of Science and Engineering Department of SOCAR, said earlier. After increasing its pressure, the gas will be sent to the gas refinery or national gas transport system and distributed to subscribers
Earlier this gas was emitted to atmosphere because of lack of necessary infrastructure which harmed environment to a great degree. The construction of a necessary infrastructure and implementation of this project is estimated at $150mln.
The volume of emissions totals 200mln cu m of gas. Compressors will be installed in Gunashli-4 platform to increase the pressure of the gas. Pipelines have been built as well to transport this gas.
