Azerbaijan, Ganja, Dec. 22/ corr. Trend V. Mammadov/ The installation of electronic gas meters using smart cards has been suspended in Azerbaijan's city of Ganja, Agali Abdullayev, deputy head of Ganja gas exploitation department, told Trend .

According to him, there are some reasons: "First, it is a lack of materials to install meters. Second, citizens laid some lines along the streets to their yards. It took some time to return them to the previous place. So, process is delayed," deputy head said.

Presently, 31,134 subscribers from 62,300 are provided with electronic meters in Ganja, Agali Abdullayev said. If the installation of electronic gas meters is restored from January 2009, this process will be completed within the first six months of 2009, deputy head of the department said.

The installation of electronic gas meters began in August 2007 in Ganja. Approximately 50% of subscribers have already been provided with such meters.
