In early 2009, the Azerbaijani Industrial and Energy Ministry instructed Azerigaz to take measures to prevent gas transmission to 25 greenhouses using gas pumps, a ministry source said.
Greenhouses are mostly located in villages outside Baku.
"Work is being conducted in this sphere. The owners of the greenhouses use special gas pumps that cause gas shortages," the source said.
Roughly 50 greenhouses using gas irrationally were registered in early 2009. The owners have been notified about the violations and must resolve the situation by Feb. 5.
"If these problems are not solved, the relevant measures will be taken," the source said.
