Iran, Tehran, April 2 / Trend , D.Ibrahimova, T.Jafarov/

Iranian Narkangan Gas to Liquid International Company Executive Director and International Institute for Caspian Studies Director Narsi Gurban especially for Trend :

Any pipeline that passes through several countries must have effective volumes of gas, a sufficient energy demand, a safe transit route and strong financial and legal support.

In terms of Iranian gas supplies to Europe, the situation is as follows.

There are 30 trillion cubic meters of proven gas reserves in Iran, This is enough to build the Persian Pipeline should the necessary investments be made in developing the fields.

Iran's priority is to meet domestic gas supply demand, generate electricity, perform reverse injection of gas into oil reservoirs and support industry. Gas production should be increased to meet export demands.

Europe is feeling an additional gas demand and hopes to diversify its energy resources.

If the Old World does not purchase Iranian gas for political reasons, then the pipeline from Iran to Europe will not be built.

Safe transit routes will be determined based on political and strategic realities. The Nabucco pipeline will pass through Turkey and the Balkans. The Persian Pipeline might pass through Iraq, Syria and the Mediterranean to Europe. These alternative routes will be discussed by the buyers, suppliers and transit countries.

Strong financial support is lacking for such a pipeline. If Iran produces enough gas, then it can satisfy both the Nabucco and Persian projects. However, a lack of investments will postpone Iranian gas exports.
