Azerbaijan, Baku, May 14 / Trend , A. Badalova/

OPEC expects the world oil demand to fall 1.6 million barrels per day and reach 84.03 million barrels per day in 2009. This indicator 0.2 million barrels per day lower than the indicator forecast by OPEC last month.

According to the May report by OPEC, the major reasons for reduced demand for oil is the deteriorating forecast about the growth rate of world demand.

"Of course, a slight recovery of the global economy could begin in the fourth quarter of this year. Recent swine flu pandemic has already had an impact on demand for fuel worldwide. Demand for gasoline, however, increased due to seasonal factors," the report said. "Low production, high unemployment and the decline in tourism are the main factors influencing the drop in demand for oil."

The Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development will account for 45.85 million barrel per of the total world oil demand, which is 1.65 million barrels per day less than in 2008.

Former Soviet countries will account for 4.08 million barrels which is 0.04 million barrels per day less than in 2008.
